Removeable Fabric Hurricane Panels in Florida

Removable fabric panels are exactly what they sound like: Hurricane Fabric Panels that can be installed and removed as required.

During the installation, side tracks are anchored to your home around an opening such as a doorway or window. The openings are relatively small compared to opening that are secured by using roll down screens.

These panels offer the same type of protection and carry the same warranty as the Atlas Armor Hurricane Screens (roll down version).

These screen panels provide insect control like an insect screen, solar radiant heat control like a solar screen, privacy unlike any other type of screen, protection against ordinary weather such as wind and rain, and hurricane protection.

The removeable fabric panels can be installed in a variety of ways.

  • With 2 tracks (one on each side of the screen) or with a track on all sides of the screen
  • The screen panels are normally in a rectangular shape, but they can also be made in other straight sided shapes such as a parallelogram or triangle.
  • Panels with just 2 side tracks (one on each opposite sides) are considered removeable. Screens with a track on each side is considered fixed.
  • In all cases, the tracks are generally mounted on the walls around the opening
  • The removable screen panels can be mounted either vertically or horizontally and they can be mounted where you have a lot of space on at least one end of the track or in a trapped condition (such as floor to ceiling) where both ends of the tracks are blocked.
  • Once the side tracks are mounted, you will be able to slip in the screen panel into the side tracks and then lock the panel in place by means of an attached stainless-steel pin that will be inserted into the side track at the location indicated by the small colored screen patch. No tools are required and the pin is attached to the screen panel so you will not lose them when being stored.
  • The removable panels optionally come with or without hand straps that run the full length of the screen panel. The straps are used to slide the panel into place because in some cases as soon as you start sliding the panel into the tracks, you will only be able to be on one side of the screen, and you will not be able to hold onto the screen.
  • One last feature about the vertical screens: Once the vertical side tracks are installed, these screens can be installed on any floor from inside of the home through an open window. You just have to be able to reach both side tracks through the window. The window must also not open out. No ladders required, your feet never have to leave the floor or ground.

How to Install

The removable screen panels all come with or without the hand straps. The screen panel with hand straps looks like this:

The hand straps run along the length of the panel. The locking stainless-steel pins are attached to the panel with nylon fasteners. The colored patch on each side indicated the location of the side track location. The pin is horizontally inserted into the track at the center of the colored patch.

1) On Left Example of a vertical removable panel when there is adequate wall below the side tracks to slide your screens into the tracks The screen is slide into either the top or the bottom of the side track. The locking pin is then inserted into both side tracks to hold the screens in place.

2) Example of a vertical removable panel when you can’t slide the screen panel into the end of your side tracks. The screen is slide into the center of the side tracks. First upwards into the top portion of the tracks and then bend over and slid into the bottom portion of the side tracks. The locking pin is then inserted into both side tracks to hold the screen in place.
3) Example of a horizontal removable panel when there is adequate wall at the ends of the side tracks to slide your screens into the tracks The screen is slide into the space in the side track. First insert into the longer track and then bend the screen over and slid into the shorter portion of the side track. The locking pin is then inserted into both side tracks to hold the screen in place.
4) Example of a horizontal removable panel when you can’t slide the screen panel into the end of your side tracks. The screen is slide into the space in the side track. First insert into the longer track and then bend the screen over and slid into the shorter portion of the side track. The locking pin is then inserted into both side tracks to hold the screen in place.
5) Four-sided fixed screen panel. This is where the screen in held on all four sides by a side track. This has the appearance of an ordinary insect screen that you would find on a window. It is installed once and then never removed.

The four-sided and it’s sister the three-sided fixed screen can also be used to construct hurricane resistant structures. Note: In order to do that, you must first have a frame work that is capable of with standing the hurricane forces. See the next product section on fixed screens.
